Directors at LDCC

We are fortunate to have a highly successful Community Centre serving Lingfield, Dormansland and the surrounding area. The Centre provides a venue for children’s activities, classes ranging from art to exercise and allows us to show films, put on plays and even operas. It hosts exhibitions and talks, coffee mornings and charity events. In short, we believe it is fulfilling its aim of facilitating a wide range of community activities.
But it doesn’t happen by magic! We have a small board of directors who guide the work of the Centre and who each take an interest in particular aspects of it. Through the directors we are able to draw on many of the skills needed in the Centre – finance, marketing, choosing films, plays and other entertainments and caring for the fabric of the building.
We are looking for a small number of people to join us as directors to help take us forward into the future. The key attributes we are seeking are enthusiasm for the Community Centre and a willingness to get involved with aspects of its operation. If you have a particular skill that is relevant to us, that would be great, but the key is enthusiasm for this community asset.
The directors are supported by our excellent Centre Manager, Claire Thomas, and her colleagues. We are financially sound and have been successful in securing grants over the years that have allowed us to maintain our premises to a high standard. We recently took over the lease of the Jennings Hall which we use for community events and which also houses the kitchen for Meals on Wheels.
The role of a director at the Community Centre is not an onerous one. The directors meet monthly in the evening – and we don’t go in for long meetings! The directors do, however, have a key role to play in ensuring we continue to have a successful Centre serving the community in many different ways. If you think you might be interested in joining us, please contact us on 01342 833893 or e-mail enquiries@lingfieldcentre.org I’d be happy to have a chat about the Centre and how you might help. And, if you know someone who you think would be suitable, do encourage them to get in touch.
