Lingfield and Dormansland Community Centre – supported by Lingfield Parish Council – is thrilled to be hosting community celebrations for the 75th anniversary of VE Day over the weekend of 8-10 May 2020.
The Grand Central Trio, a vintage jazz trio from Chichester, will join residents, family and friends in Lingfield – many wearing 40s clothing – for an evening concert of foot stomping 1940s standards (Friday, 8 May 2020). To add to the village’s weekend of celebrations popular Lingfield Community Cinema, Flix in the Stix, will be screening a movie double-bill; A Royal Night Out, followed by a cream tea, and then Hope and Glory (both on Sunday, 10 May 2020). Tickets for all events are now sale from the Community Centre.
Community Centre Chairman, Ian Jones said, “The Grand Central Trio will create the perfect jazz and swing sound for our community celebrations. We are delighted that vocalist Jessica De Gucci will be joining the trio for this special night. I urge people to purchase their tickets early to avoid disappointment as it promises to be a night full of great music, memories, and perhaps a couple of jitter bug tunes to get you moving!”
Flix in the Stix organiser, Paul Pirie said, “It’s going to be a wonderful weekend and our Sunday double-bill of movies perfectly capture the spirit of celebration.
A Royal Night Out (2.30pm, Sunday 10 May 2020), centres on V.E. Day in 1945. As peace extends across Europe, Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret are allowed out to join the celebrations. It is a night full of excitement, danger and the first flutters of romance.
Hope and Glory (5.30pm, Sunday 10 May 2020)is John Boorman’s delightful and highly rated WWII film as seen through the eyes of 9-year-old, Billy. Though surrounded by the horror and tragedy of the war, Billy adopts a child’s objectivity, viewing the passing parade in wonder rather than terror. After his family’s home is destroyed, Billy is given a different perspective on life when he is evacuated to his grandfather’s idyllic country home.”
Paul adds, “With a delicious cream tea included in the ticket price it’s going to be popular event, especially as there is a double-bill special offer price. With limited availability, I recommend buying your tickets to this special film event now.”
Guests are encouraged to join in the weekend celebrations in 1940s costume with prizes being awarded for best turned out on both days.
