The Meals on Wheels team have been very busy behind the scenes over the last few months. A new management committee, made up of 8 local volunteers, has been formed and they have successfully registered Lingfield & Dormansland Meals on Wheels with the Charities Commission. They also have a new, specially designed logo adding a fresh new look to promote the service.
Sara Watson, Chair of the new committee, says “We are very proud of our Meals on Wheels service which is a life-line to many of our clients. We are one of the very few services in the country run entirely by volunteers but as you can imagine, this involves a great deal of time and commitment. The formation of our new committee allows us to be better organised, spreads the workload and, most importantly, builds a firm footing for the future of the service.”
Their new charitable status will enable Meals on Wheels to apply to various bodies for grant funding to support and develop the service in the future.
Do you need Meals on Wheels?
Meals on Wheels currently have vacancies for new clients so if you, or anyone you know, would benefit from having freshly cooked meals delivered Monday to Friday please contact Pat Smith on 01342 834442 or 07504 481289 or Debbie Doran on 01342 843098. Short term help is also available to anyone needing a little support during illness or whilst recuperating.
Do you have some time to spare?
The team are also looking for new volunteers, whether to cook or deliver the meals. The rota normally means attending once every five weeks (although you can offer more if you wish) so if you can spare some time to help please contact Julie Cleaver on 01342 300024 or email juliecleaver@btinternet.com
