Our new Flix in the Stix season continues on Sunday 9th October with the Oscar winning film, The Danish Girl, starring Eddy Redmayne and Alicia Vikander.
A fictitious love story loosely inspired by the lives of Danish artists Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener. Lili and Gerda’s marriage and work evolve as they navigate Lili’s groundbreaking journey as a transgender pioneer.
Copenhagen, 1926. Danish artist, Gerda Wegener (Vikander), painted her own husband, Einar Wegener (Redmayne), as a lady in her picture. When the painting gained popularity, Einar started to change his appearance into that of a female and named himself Lili Elbe.
Over time, Einar realises that he enjoys being a woman and, with Gerda’s support, embarks upon a journey of male-to-female gender reassignment – one of the first of its kind. The decision causes a massive change for their marriage and Gerda realises her husband is no longer a man or the person she married. When a childhood friend of Einar, art-dealer Hans Axgil shows up, a complex love triangle begins.
Doors open at 7.00pm for refreshments with the film starting at 7.30pm. Tickets £5 from the centre office or Robert Leech Estate Agent in the High Street
